Three people were killed and 179 others injured after a plane
skidded off a runway and crashed at Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen Airport during
landing on Wednesday, according to the Turkish Minister of Health.

torn in two after a frightening crash on the runway. Turkish officials had
claimed all the victims have survived although many suffered injuries injured.
The plane is a Pegasus passenger Aircraft which had taken off from the western
city of Izmir.

Pegasus Airlines aircraft failed to
stop before the end of the runway at Sabiha Gokcen airport and fell 30 metres
into a ditch, splitting into three pieces, on Wednesday evening (local time).

Passengers were seen evacuating
through cracks in the plane.

A spokeswoman for Pegasus Airlines
confirmed the crash but did not provide further details.

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said
the plane was carrying 171 passengers and six crew members from Turkey's
western province of Izmir.

Mr Yerlikaya said the plane landed
in bad weather, failed to "hold onto the runway" and skidded some
50-60m before crashing into a ditch from a height of some 30m.

"We are deeply saddened … [But]
we are very happy that we escaped a greater accident," he said, adding
that the plane could have burst into flames.

The airport was shut down after the
incident, which occurred at 6:30pm (local time) and flights were diverted to
Istanbul's main airport.

Footage on Turkish media showed the
plane's fuselage, as well as a section of it near the tail, had broken off.

Passengers were being led out as the
plane lay on a patch of grass next to the runway.

According to flight-tracking website
Flightradar24, the plane is a Boeing 737.
·
The accident comes a month after
another Pegasus plane skidded off the runway in Istanbul at the same airport.
There were no deaths or injuries in that incident on January 7.

It is rare for a fuselage to split
open while pieces remain largely intact.
·
Planes are designed to absorb impact
forces in the bottom of the fuselage to improve the chances that passengers in
the cabin above will survive.

Dozens of emergency response
personnel were seen taking passengers out of the plane and carrying them away
on stretchers.

Earlier footage showed part of the
exterior of the plane had caught on fire, which Anadolu news agency said was
put out by firefighters.

वहाँ के गवर्नर यार्लिकाया ने कहा कि रनवे से दूर जाने के बाद विमान "लगभग 60 मीटर की दूरी पर" फिसल गया, इस प्लेन क्रैश में 3 लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि 179
लोग घायल हो गए हैं।
अत्यंत खराब मौसम बना कारण
सूचनानुसार बताया जा रहा है कि तुर्की के सबसे बड़े शहर इस्तांबुल में तेज हवाओं और
भारी बारिश की वजह से यह विमान प्रभावित हुआ था।
