Introduction (RRC Jaipur Act Apprentice 2026 Notification for 2008 Posts)

The Railway Recruitment Cell of North Western Railway has officially released one of the most anticipated apprenticeship notifications of the year under Notice No. 04/2026 (NWR/AA). With a massive 2008 Act Apprentice training slots on offer for the 2026-27 training year, this recruitment drive opens a golden gateway for thousands of young ITI-qualified candidates seeking structured skill development within the Indian Railways ecosystem. Engagement as an Act Apprentice under the Apprentices Act, 1961, is not merely a short-term training opportunity; it is a strategically designed pathway that immerses candidates in real-world railway operations, technical disciplines, and workshop environments across major divisions of North Western Railway.

For candidates from Rajasthan and neighbouring states, this recruitment holds special significance. Training locations span Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, and Jodhpur divisions along with specialised carriage and loco workshops. Successful apprentices gain hands-on exposure to trades that form the backbone of railway maintenance and operations. Beyond the immediate stipend and skill certification, the experience of working inside railway establishments significantly enhances employability in both public sector and private industrial roles. With applications opening on 7 October 2026 and closing on 6 November 2026, the window is limited and competition is expected to be intense. Candidates who meet the educational and age criteria must act promptly to secure their place in this highly sought-after training programme.

The largest share of vacancies has been allocated to the Divisional Railway Manager offices, reflecting the operational scale of these divisions.

These slots cover multiple designated trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Welder, Carpenter, Painter, and other trades notified in the official document. The distribution ensures that both large operational divisions and specialised workshops receive adequate trainee strength for the training year. Candidates must carefully match their ITI trade with the trades available in the chosen unit, as applications for unmatched trades will not be considered. Reservation of slots among SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and Unreserved categories will be implemented as per the prevailing Government of India and Railway Board guidelines applicable to apprenticeship engagements.

RRC NWR Act Apprentice 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

To be eligible for engagement as an Act Apprentice under this notification, candidates must satisfy a dual educational requirement. First, they must have passed the Class 10 examination or its equivalent under the 10+2 examination system from a recognised Board with a minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate. Importantly, no rounding off of marks is permitted; candidates must secure a clear 50 percent or higher. Second, candidates must possess a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the relevant notified trade issued by either the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT). The ITI certificate must correspond exactly to the trade applied for in the chosen unit. Candidates who are still awaiting the final results of their Class 10 or ITI examinations are not eligible to apply. Both the matriculation certificate and the National Trade Certificate must be available at the time of document verification.

Age Limit and Relaxations

The crucial cut-off date for age calculation is 06 November 2026. Candidates must have completed 15 years of age and must not have completed 24 years of age as on this date. This age window is specifically designed to attract young candidates who can complete the full period of apprenticeship training effectively. Upper age limit relaxations are available for reserved categories as per standard Railway and Government of India norms. SC and ST candidates are entitled to a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit. OBC candidates (non-creamy layer) receive a relaxation of 3 years. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are eligible for a relaxation of 10 years. Ex-servicemen are granted relaxation equivalent to the period of service rendered in the Defence Forces plus an additional 3 years, subject to a minimum of 6 months of continuous service. Candidates claiming age relaxation must produce valid supporting certificates in the prescribed format at the time of document verification. Failure to produce authentic documents will result in cancellation of candidature even if the candidate has been shortlisted on merit.

Application Fee and Payment Mode

The application fee structure has been kept modest to encourage wider participation while generating a nominal administrative contribution from candidates. Candidates belonging to the Unreserved (UR), OBC, and EWS categories are required to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 100. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) categories, as well as all female candidates irrespective of category, are completely exempted from payment of any application fee. The fee, once paid, is non-refundable under any circumstances, including cancellation of candidature, withdrawal of application, or non-selection. Payment can be made only through online modes available on the application portal. Acceptable payment methods include Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, and UPI. Candidates are strongly advised to complete the payment well before the closing date to avoid last-minute technical issues or payment gateway failures. After successful payment, candidates must retain the transaction receipt and application printout for future reference.

Reservation Policy

Reservation of training slots under this Act Apprentice engagement will be implemented strictly in accordance with the Government of India and Ministry of Railways guidelines applicable to apprenticeships. Vertical reservation is provided for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Horizontal reservation is extended to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and Ex-servicemen as per the prescribed percentages. The exact category-wise distribution of the 2008 slots will be reflected in the unit-wise and trade-wise breakup published in the detailed notification. Candidates claiming reservation benefits must possess valid and current caste certificates, EWS certificates, or disability certificates issued by the competent authority in the format prescribed by the Central Government. Certificates issued by State authorities are acceptable only if they conform to the central format. Failure to produce authentic reservation certificates at the time of document verification will result in the candidate being treated as an Unreserved category applicant, provided the overall merit justifies such consideration. Women candidates, while exempted from application fee, do not receive additional horizontal reservation solely on the basis of gender unless they also fall under PwBD or other reserved categories.

RRC NWR Act Apprentice 2026 Salary, Stipend & Pay Scale Details

Engagement under the RRC NWR Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026 is purely a training programme governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend as per the extant rules and directives issued by the Railway Board from time to time. The exact stipend amount is not fixed in the notification and may vary according to the trade and prevailing government norms applicable during the training year 2026-27. In addition to the stipend, apprentices are entitled to the benefits prescribed under the Apprentices Act, including leave and medical facilities as applicable. No Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, or other regular employee allowances are payable during the apprenticeship period. Hostel accommodation is not provided by the Railway administration; candidates must make their own residential arrangements near the allotted training unit. Importantly, successful completion of the apprenticeship does not confer any right to permanent absorption or regular employment in North Western Railway or any other Railway zone. The primary objective remains skill development and issuance of a National Apprenticeship Certificate upon successful completion of training.

RRC NWR Act Apprentice 2026 Detailed Selection Process

The selection process for RRC NWR Act Apprentice 2026 is entirely merit-based and does not involve any written examination, Computer Based Test, or interview. The Railway Recruitment Cell will prepare a merit list of all candidates who submit valid online applications. Merit is calculated as the simple average of the percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation (Class 10) and the percentage of marks obtained in the relevant ITI trade. For Matriculation, marks of all subjects are taken into account without any selective calculation. For ITI, the percentage mentioned in the provisional or final National Trade Certificate is used. The formula is straightforward: (Matriculation Percentage + ITI Percentage) ÷ 2.

Merit lists are prepared separately for each Division or Unit, each trade, and each community (UR, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) in descending order of the calculated percentage, limited to the number of available slots. In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate is given preference. If dates of birth are also identical, the candidate who passed the Matriculation examination earlier ranks higher. Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification at the respective unit, where original certificates are scrutinised. Candidates must also produce a medical fitness certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-IV) issued by a Government authorised Gazetted Doctor not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of a Central or State Hospital. Only those who clear both Document Verification and Medical Examination are engaged for apprenticeship training after signing the Contract of Apprenticeship.

Complete Exam Syllabus & Exam Pattern

Unlike conventional Railway recruitments conducted by RRBs, the RRC NWR Act Apprentice engagement does not prescribe any written examination, Computer Based Test, Physical Efficiency Test, or skill test as part of the selection process. There is therefore no formal syllabus covering Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, or Technical subjects. Selection rests exclusively on academic performance already achieved by the candidate in Class 10 and ITI.

The only evaluation metric is the simple average of the two percentages as explained above. Candidates must ensure that the marks entered in the online application match exactly with the figures printed on their Matriculation mark sheet and ITI certificate, because any discrepancy discovered during Document Verification will lead to rejection. No negative marking or sectional cut-off applies because no examination is conducted. The absence of a written test places complete emphasis on consistent academic performance throughout Class 10 and the ITI course. Candidates are advised to keep their original mark sheets and certificates ready in advance, as these documents form the sole basis of the merit ranking. The final panel is unit-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise; there is no common all-India or zone-level merit list.
