Introduction (ONGC Apprentice 2026 – 3047 Trade Diploma Graduate Posts)

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), India’s flagship Maharatna energy company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has released a major apprenticeship notification under Advertisement No. ONGC/APPR/1/2026. The organisation is inviting online applications for a total of 3,047 apprentice positions across Trade, Diploma and Graduate categories. These seats are distributed over 24 work centres spanning Northern, Mumbai, Western, Eastern, Southern and Central sectors. The recruitment is being conducted under the Apprentices Act, 1961, as a structured skill-building initiative that offers young candidates paid, industry-oriented training of 12 months duration.

For thousands of job seekers holding 10th, 12th, ITI, Diploma or Graduate qualifications, this drive represents a significant opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of India’s most critical public sector enterprises. Selected apprentices will receive monthly stipends ranging from ₹8,200 to ₹12,300 depending on their qualification level, while working in real operational environments related to oil and gas exploration, production, maintenance, safety, administration and technical support. Although the apprenticeship does not guarantee permanent absorption, the exposure, certificate and organisational branding often open doors to better career prospects in the energy and manufacturing sectors.

Online registration began on 29 October 2026 and will close on 20 November 2026. Candidates must apply through the designated National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) or National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portals according to the trade they choose. With limited time remaining and domicile restrictions linked to eligible districts of each work centre, aspirants are advised to complete the application process without delay after carefully verifying eligibility.

ONGC Apprentice Comprehensive Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Educational requirements are strictly trade-specific. For most Trade Apprentice posts under the NAPS scheme, candidates must possess a National Trade Certificate or equivalent from an ITI recognised by NCVT or the respective State Board of Technical Education in the identical trade (examples: Fitter, Electrician, COPA, Mechanic Diesel, Instrument Mechanic, Welder, Machinist, Electronics Mechanic, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Draughtsman Civil, Stenographer English, Surveyor, etc.). Certain posts accept 10th pass (Library Assistant) or 12th pass / relevant ITI (Fire Safety Technician – Oil & Gas). Wireman certificates are not accepted for Electrician trade.

Diploma Apprentice positions require a three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline from a recognised institution. Graduate Apprentice posts demand a Bachelor’s degree such as B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., B.B.A., B.E. or B.Tech. in the prescribed stream, recognised by UGC or AICTE. Qualifications obtained through Distance Education Council (DEC) approved programmes are also accepted. Candidates must ensure that their qualification matches the exact requirement of the chosen trade; mismatched certificates will lead to rejection at the document verification stage.

Age Limit & Relaxations

The age limit is calculated as on 29 November 2026. Minimum age is 18 years and maximum age is 24 years for unreserved candidates. Consequently, the date of birth of eligible applicants must fall between 29 November 2002 and 29 November 2008 (both dates inclusive).

Upper age relaxation is granted as per Government of India norms: 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, and up to 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD). Further extended relaxation is available for PwBD candidates belonging to SC/ST (up to 15 years) and OBC Non-Creamy Layer (up to 13 years). Candidates must produce valid category certificates in the prescribed format at the time of document verification to claim relaxation. No age relaxation is available for candidates of other categories beyond the stated limits.

Application Fee & Payment Mode

ONGC has not prescribed any application fee for any category of candidates. General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwBD and female candidates can submit their online applications free of cost. Since no fee is chargeable, there is no requirement for online payment through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, UPI or any other mode. Candidates should simply complete registration and form submission on the respective NAPS or NATS portal before the closing date. Applications once submitted cannot be withdrawn, and no refund-related queries arise because the process is completely free.

Reservation Policy

Reservation of seats for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) will be implemented strictly in accordance with the Government of India guidelines and the Apprentices Act provisions. The exact percentage and number of reserved seats for each category will be applied at the work-centre and trade level as notified. Candidates belonging to reserved categories must upload valid and current certificates issued by competent authorities.

Failure to produce authentic documents during verification will result in the candidate being treated as unreserved and may lead to cancellation of candidature if the overall merit is not sufficient. Horizontal reservation for PwBD will be adjusted within the respective vertical categories as per rules. Women candidates are encouraged to apply; however, no separate vertical reservation for women is indicated beyond the standard provisions.

ONGC Apprentice Detailed Selection Process

The selection process for ONGC Apprentice Recruitment 2026 is completely merit-based and does not involve any written examination, physical test or interview. ONGC will prepare a provisional merit list of candidates for each trade and work centre solely on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained in the essential qualifying examination (10th, 12th, ITI, Diploma or Degree, as applicable).

In case two or more candidates secure the same percentage of marks, preference will be given to the candidate who is older in age. After the provisional merit list is published, shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification at the respective work centres. Candidates must produce original certificates related to educational qualification, age proof, caste/category, domicile, and any other relevant documents. Only those who successfully clear the document verification stage will be issued the final engagement letter. Medical fitness as per ONGC standards is also mandatory before joining. The number of candidates called for verification will be decided by ONGC based on the number of vacancies and the merit position. The entire process is transparent and follows the guidelines of the Apprentices Act, 1961.

ONGC Apprentice Complete Exam Syllabus & Exam Pattern

There is no written examination, computer-based test or interview for ONGC Apprentice Recruitment 2026. Selection is purely on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination prescribed for the respective trade. Therefore, no traditional exam pattern, subject-wise syllabus, number of questions, total marks, duration or negative marking is applicable.

Candidates are advised to focus on ensuring that their academic percentage is accurately calculated and correctly entered in the online application form. For ITI candidates, the percentage of marks in the National Trade Certificate or State Trade Certificate will be considered. For Diploma and Graduate candidates, the aggregate percentage of all semesters or years will be taken into account. Any discrepancy between the marks claimed in the application and the actual mark sheets produced during document verification will lead to immediate cancellation of candidature. Since the process is merit-based, candidates with higher percentages in the relevant qualification stand a better chance of selection for their preferred work centre and trade.
