UPESSC Pravakta PGT Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject from a recognized university along with a B.Ed. degree recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The postgraduate qualification must match the subject for which the candidate is applying. For Hindi, an additional requirement of having studied Sanskrit at the graduation level is commonly prescribed. For Biology, a postgraduate degree in Botany, Zoology, or an allied biological science is accepted. Physical Education requires an M.P.Ed. degree. Music (Vocal or Instrumental), Drawing, Fine Arts, and certain other subjects have specific postgraduate or equivalent diploma requirements as detailed in the official notification. Importantly, TET or CTET is not mandatory for this PGT recruitment. Candidates must ensure that their degrees are from institutions recognized by the UGC or the relevant statutory body, and the B.Ed. must be from an NCTE-approved programme. Final-year students who will complete their qualification by the cut-off date mentioned in the notification may also be eligible, subject to the exact wording of the advertisement.

Age Limit & Relaxations

The age of candidates will be calculated as on 1 July 2026. The minimum age is 21 years and the maximum age is 62 years. Candidates who have already attained the age of 62 years on the cut-off date will not be eligible. Age relaxation is provided as per Uttar Pradesh Government rules for reserved categories. SC/ST candidates generally receive five years of relaxation, OBC candidates three years, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) further relaxation as per norms. Ex-servicemen and other special categories are also entitled to the benefits prescribed under state rules. However, even after applying the maximum permissible relaxation, no candidate can exceed the upper age limit of 62 years. Candidates must carefully verify their date of birth as recorded in the High School or equivalent certificate, as this document will be treated as conclusive proof during document verification.

Application Fee & Payment Mode

The application fee structure is category-based and non-refundable under any circumstances. Candidates belonging to the General / Unreserved, OBC, and EWS categories are required to pay ₹1,500. SC and ST candidates need to pay ₹750. Divyangjan / Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates are required to pay only ₹500.

The fee must be paid online through the prescribed payment gateway using Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. No offline payment mode such as demand draft or cash is accepted. Candidates should complete the payment well before the last date of 17 October 2026 to avoid transaction failures due to heavy server load. After successful payment, the system generates a confirmation page that must be downloaded and preserved. Failure to pay the correct fee according to the category claimed will lead to rejection of the application.

Reservation Policy

Reservation is applicable as per the prevailing Uttar Pradesh Government rules for direct recruitment. Horizontal and vertical reservations are provided for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. Women candidates and other special categories may also receive horizontal reservation benefits where applicable. The exact category-wise distribution for each subject is given in the official notification. Candidates claiming reservation must possess valid and up-to-date caste, EWS, or disability certificates issued by the competent authority of Uttar Pradesh in the prescribed format.

Certificates issued by authorities outside Uttar Pradesh are generally not accepted for reservation benefits under state rules. During document verification, any discrepancy between the category claimed in the online form and the supporting certificates will result in the candidate being treated as unreserved or rejection of the candidature, depending on the nature of the discrepancy. Candidates are therefore advised to ensure complete accuracy while filling the reservation category in the application form.
